  • Special Congregational Meeting     June 1st, 2014

    The Future of Our Church Building


    As faithful stewards of our church building in support of our ministries, the Members of First Congregational United Church of Christ Downers Grove, Illinois hereby approve borrowing from our Church Endowment Fund up to two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) to be used to repair and enhance our church building and grounds. Loan(s) will occur no later than June 1, 2016, and will be repaid in full no later than June 1, 2019. Repayment(s) will be made to the Church Endowment Fund, and will include interest on the outstanding balance at a rate not to exceed three per cent (3%) per annum. Such repayments will be made from the annual budget, capital funds, and/or other sources approved by the Church Cabinet on a schedule and at an interest rate to be determined by the Church Cabinet.

    We further approve borrowing from The Centennial Loan Fund of the Winnetka Congregational Church the sum of forty thousand dollars ($40,000). This loan will be repaid within five years from the date of the loan in sixty, monthly installments of $701, which includes interest at the rate of 2% per annum.

Committees

Leadership Committee discovers and develops Christian leaders from the Congregation. Acts as the Nominating Committee for the elected positions of the Congregation. Invites every member of the church who is able to participate in at least one ministry each year.

Auditing Committee monitors the financial procedures of the church and recommends improvements to the Cabinet and Ministry Coordination Board. Examines the accounts of the church and makes an annual report to the Church Cabinet.

Building and Grounds Committee oversees and prioritizes the maintenance of the building and outside grounds. Coordinates spring and fall church workdays. Handles unexpected maintenance issues and contracted service reviews. 

Endowment Committee
manages the investment of the assets of the Church Endowments, in accord with the current Resolution of Trust Declaration. Provides an accounting to the Cabinet of the investments and their returns

Finance and Budget Committee
is responsible for the fiscal management of the church, and to be good stewards of our members' financial contributions. This includes budget planning, management of donations, and monitoring expenses of the church office, ministries and committees.The Finance & Budget Committee works closely with the church treasurer and bookkeeper, and meets monthly to review our financial status.

Personnel Committee is responsible to develop, design, refine, propose, establish, and implement the personnel practice and procedures of our church, and advocate, support and assist our Ministers, Congregation, and support staff.

Ministries

The Ministries of the church are teams that envision, plan and carry out the ministries and programs of the church and its missions

The Ministry Coordination Board is comprised of chairs of all Ministries and Committees. It meets monthly to plan and develop the ministries of the church



The Church Cabinet monitors and supports the daily operations of the congregation.



The Ministry of Christian Education oversees all opportunities for spiritual formation and nurture for all ages. (Click here for more detailed information)

The Ministry of Christian Mission helps others help themselves so they can break free from their cycle of suffering. We want to serve Christ by serving others and, by doing so, help them see and feel the Spirit’s blessing and love.

The Ministry of Witness in Society responds to Jesus' call to speak the truth in love. Through the ministry of witness we study crucial social and political issues of the time.

The Ministry of Evangelism and Membership believes that we are called to share God’s love with all. We publicize the ministries of our congregation to the larger community. (Click here for more detailed information)



The First Congregational Learning Center is a year round program for children ages 3-6 years.  Each student is assisted in the areas of social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual growth.  The program maintains a 1 to 10 teacher/student ratio, which fosters the learning process.  (Click here for more detailed information)



The Ministry of Worship, Arts and Music (WAM) is responsible for the over view of all aspects of the worship services and music programs, including, but not limited to: music, Communion, chancel beautification, audio-visual, and Continental Breakfast.
