You Can Help During COVID 19

The needs of the homeless and food challenged are even more critical during this outbreak. The safest way to help is to donate to DuPage PADS and the Greater Chicago Food Depository, both of which are organizations our church regularly supports. Details below.

A special effort is underway to sew masks for health care workers. Details below.

Questions? Email Gail Clark, Mary Dove, or Vicki Peters.

Deliver Groceries to Neighbors

Our neighbor, Immanuel Residences on Gilbert, needs help bringing groceries that have been delivered by the Northern Illinois Food Bank to the residents' rooms on the third Wednesdays of the month. There is no direct contact.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank arrives at 10:15 a.m. loaded with boxes. Volunteers would bring boxes into the Community Room and then to residents’ doors.  To volunteer or ask questions, contact Gail Clark.

Monday Meals

Each Monday, just outside the West Entrance, a small group of volunteers distributes sandwiches to our homeless neighbors.

Help assemble sandwiches in our kitchen and hand them out on Mondays from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Questions or to volunteer - E-mail Mary Dove.

Hope's Front Door

Hope’s Front Door has reopened with curbside walk-up assistance. Regular hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Interested in volunteering? Email info@hopesfrontdoor.org

Interested in donating to the annual school supply drive ending August 10? Use this list

Interested in donating? Here is a list of items that are especially needed right now. During this shelter-in-place time, donations can be dropped off at the west entrance of the church during Hope's Front Door regular hours.

Little Free Pantry

With the support of the young people who established the Little Free Library, the Mission and Justice Ministry is temporarily re-purposing it as a Little Free Pantry to assist families during the pandemic. Take what you need. Give what you can. Let your friends, family, and neighbors know it's there for them.

If you can donate non-perishable grocery items, please place them in the Little Free Pantry. Please be mindful of expiration dates. If the pantry is full, or you would like to volunteer to stock donations in the pantry, email Mary Dove or Vicki Peters.

Join the Face Mask Brigade

We are building a brigade of people who can whip up face masks on their sewing machines with a donation of 200 yards of fabric from Joann Fabric

Advocate Health has provided a pattern to use and we have a list of organizations who need cloth face masks. The fabric is cut into two-yard pieces; each yard yields approximately 10 masks.

Email Jan Hibbeln to join the brigade and get instructions on pickup or delivery.

Greater Chicago Food Depository

From the Greater Chicago Food Depository website:

"As schools and businesses close across our community, the economic impact from this crisis is likely to disproportionately affect lower-income families and hourly workers. The Food Depository expects this pandemic will increase food insecurity in the city and throughout Cook County."
